What is Chiropractic?

“CHIROPRACTIC is the SCIENCE of locating and the ART of correcting SUBLUXATIONS without drugs or surgery and the PHILOSOPHY that the body can HEAL ITSELF when the NERVOUS SYSTEM is functioning WITHOUT INTERFERENCE."

Some Core Principles

Picture
• HEALTH - a dynamic state of wholeness in which your body can accurately perceive its constantly changing needs and respond appropriately in a timely manner.

• NERVOUS SYSTEM - consists of your brain, spinal cord, spinal and peripheral nerves, and all nerves leading into literally every tissue cell of your body.

• PURPOSE OF YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM - monitor your changing needs, and to control and coordinate appropriate responses necessary for proper adaptation, learning and development.

How Does Chiropractic Differ from Medicine?

• CHIROPRACTIC MODEL
Chiropractic is based on the study of the nervous system and its role in sustaining health, and Its chief concern is interference to the nervous system and normal, healthy function.  Chiropractic recognizes that you are either in the ongoing process of adapting to or failing to effectively adapt to body stress.  Viewing these two directions, one process leads to health and healing, while the opposite process leads to becoming ill.
• MEDICAL MODEL
Medicine is based on the study of resulting symptomatic effects and signs, and how to treat those effects.  Medicine classifies observed effects into over 2000 named diseases or syndromes in order to assign different treatments.  Medicine and most alternative therapies are a symptom and disease oriented approach, which can quickly become costly and is often irreversible.

Chiropractic Care vs. Physical Therapy

On the surface, Chiropractic Care & Physical Therapy seem the same to most. Both claim to help clients using a natural approach vs. treatment with the use of drugs and/or surgery.
• PHYSICAL THERAPY, as defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary, is therapy for the preservation, enhancement, or restoration of movement and physical function impaired or threatened by disability, injury, or disease.

So basically, if a joint is injured or is affected by a disability and/or disease, the physical therapists works to restore the normal motion of the joint. They do this through the use therapeutic exercise, physical modalities, patient education, and training to do so. Their goal is to increase the range of motion of the affected joints, and build musculature to support the structure of that joint. When looking to rehabilitate soft tissue, physical therapists are your choice!
• CHIROPRACTIC CARE
With regards to the type of chiropractic care I provide in this office.  I focus on restoring normal nerve flow. Bones can only move if a muscle moves it and a muscle will only move when the nervous system tells it to. For me then, it makes more sense to address the nervous system first so all else can follow.

• WHAT IS THE MASTER CONTROL SYSTEM OF THE BODY?
The brain and spinal cord are connected to every cell, tissue and organ via our spinal nerve system, and the purpose of the brain and nervous system is to control, coordinate, and to adapt the body to its environment. This is why it is called the mastercontrol system.

What other body systems are influenced or controlled by the nervous system?
