Apples and Oranges in Chiropractic

A “Chiropractic Adjustment” vs. “Chiropractic Care”

I see so many people comparing apples to oranges when it comes to Chiropractic. Some people will visit our office once or twice and believe this effort to be Chiropractic. Some even forget our names over time.  If you investigate further, you find out they only visited until their pain was gone.

A Chiropractic Adjustment is a specific force applied to the spine to facilitate(assist) the correction of a subluxation. Under this paradigm, you walk in with pain and want an adjustment to magically remove that entity that has been there for months to even years. You received a few Chiropractic Adjustments and you’re happy! You may have even been able to dictate to your chiropractor where and how to adjust you.

With Chiropractic Care on the other hand, you are part of an ongoing effort along with your chiropractor to maintain your nerve system clear of subluxations(interferences of nerve transmission to and from the brain to the body) for the rest of your life. On your part, you visit often, not because of any problem, but to constantly keep your nerve system clear of interference just because you know its better for you under ANY circumstance. As your Chiropractor, we will examine your spine locating any subluxations then gently introduce a calculated force(or forces) into the specific vertebra(s) involved to assist the body in its correction of these blockages. Over time and with consistency, your body will be better able to maintain its balance and keep you free of subluxations.

Which do you want? A Chiropractic Adjustment or Chiropractic Care?

The Train vs. The Pain?

Chiropractic at this office is geared towards taking care of the TRAIN vs. the PAIN. The Pain will be taken care of by the body healing, at its own speed... slow in the beginning and as your body has healed more, faster healing will take place.  Enjoy your time at Sankofa Spinal Care as the TRAIN is a great illustration of slowing, stopping and reversing previous injuries and conditions. So many times people come to my office to get rid of their pain. Although this is very understandable, we should all look at a Bigger Picture. Consider the fact that your condition may have been with you several months or even a year or more and it has grown in its effect until it has caused you to visit this office for help. Consider too that it has a great pattern established upon your life in how it affects you. You can tell when it's coming on, how bad it's going to be, that it will last this number of days and that nothing will help it....  It's got you trapped!
Now, getting rid of the pain, (caboose - last thing to arrive) might be done in just a few visits, but this train has been moving for some TIME.  There is some speed established, so our first step should be to slow the train, over TIME, to a stop. After stopping, a reversal is needed so that repair can start to take place. We must travel past the places you crossed while getting here.

There is an order to things!

Where should I adjust first? What would be the most appropriate segment to adjust in order to get the most bang for your buck?
My educated mind would say the area just below your brain must be clear first to allow the full flow of messages from the brain. Logically this is where i would start...

What does your educated mind say?
Oh, you think somewhere else?
What do we do now?

Why not ask the body? The intelligence within each of us knows what is best for the body that it is a part of. Our brain communicated with 70 to 100 trillion cells 24/7.

Question: If the pain is in the Low Back, is the problem always in the Low Back?

How long will it take?

How long before I get better Doc? A loaded question! Most people walking into our offices as chiropractors are considering just one portion of the process. Healing is that part of  the process that is ongoing as is the stresses of life.  Thoughts, Trauma and Toxins continually bombard us daily. The emotional stress of a child being sick,  the chocolate  bar you seemingly can't get enough of,  to sleeping on the couch between trips to pick up the kids from school are things that occur daily.

One important thing to note about the above comment is that every minute of your life, your habits either make you stronger or make you weaker. What habits break you down and what habits build you up? No matter the things that make you weaker, make regular Chiropractic Care a habit in your life. Get your Spine checked Often; Maximize Life!

Be Patient...

If you're like most people starting care at this office, you've probably been going down the wrong road relative to your health for a while; you have been moving toward sickness, aging, and death.  When you start care with us, you begin applying something positive to stop your momentum in the negative direction and start moving toward health, wellness, and wholeness again.  This positive force is in the form of the specific chiropractic adjustment, which increases the expression of your Innate Healing Life Force, by restoring alignment and function in your spine and reestablishing the connections and communication between your brain and all the cells of your body.

As indicated
by the list of steps above, as well as the image.... It takes time, so be patient with yourself and the progress ahead of you. Get your Spine checked Often; Maximize Life!
